About IOJ Travel

InsightOut Journeys began in 2010 to create small group tours that are more than just trips, but rather adventures into the heart of distant cultures. Itineraries are individually designed to meet the interest each client.  We specialize in unique programs that include guests, who reveal local secrets, sensibilities – and tastes. Free time to absorb the experience is always included.

IOJ Travel, as we’re now named, works with leaders of special interest groups or businesses to design themed tours — to cities, museums, ateliers, restaurants or markets of their choice.  We are extremely high touch. An IOJ guide travels with the group to handle all the arrangements, allowing group leaders to immerse themselves in the experience.

Our trips are not prepackaged.   Each is specifically designed for a group and includes custom curated events.

Included are events such as lunch with a best-selling author and journalist on his old teak boat in the center of Paris. Or inviting the chocolatier who just demonstrated how to make praline, to join the group on their wine tasting, where he casually shared how to pair fine chocolate with grand cru Bordeaux.

Our Team

Jeannette Hermann, CTC

CO-FOUNDER

Jeannette, like many, loves to travel, and she believes the best trips blend adventure with discovery. In 1983, she founded Timeless Travels in San Francisco and for six years organized such trips as exploring the Greek Islands with Jean Shinoda Bolen; seeing Egypt with Jean Houston; and seminars with Joseph Campbell in Montana. She moved to France in 1991 and brought groups to pick olives in Provence, make pizzas in Tuscany and look for dinosaur eggs in the Pyrenees. For 12 years, she co-hosted chocolate tours with David Lebovitz and guided several literary tours with author, Phil Cousineau.

Lisa Steckley

CO-FOUNDER

With 100,000s of air miles to amazing destinations, Lisa found the best trips were ones that changed her perception.  She is not a fan of what she calls ‘hop on, hop off’ tours-where the bus pulls up for an hour visit to a museum then off the next destination.  In her experience, skimming the surface misses the opportunity to harvest the unique moments found only in travel.  Her vision for IOJ Travel is to serve the world using the potential of travel to shift perception. And the way they do that is to create an experience that allows the participants time, space, focus and safety net to explore life that is different from their own.   “Ah ha” moments are not only remembered, but are potentially life altering.

Grand Hotel do Porto

Being one of the oldest cities in the country, over 2000 years old, Braga perfectly combines the traditional and the modern, providing a journey through the history and architecture of different times. In this city in the north of Portugal, the heart of the Minho region, it is possible to appreciate traces from the Roman era (when it was called Bracara Augusta, honoring Emperor Augustus). But also visit the first Cathedral in the country, built in the 12th century.
